The Story of Planadas Farm

History of the Farm
Nestled in the lush mountains of Tolima, near the fertile soils of a volcano, our farm in Planadas has a rich history rooted in agriculture and tradition. For over 50 years, the land was cultivated by a dedicated family who grew a variety of crops, raised cattle, and maintained coffee trees as part of their livelihood. In 2010, Dr. Carlos, a lifelong professional in the healthcare industry with a deep passion for farming and animals, acquired the farm with the initial goal of focusing on cattle ranching.
At first, coffee was not his main priority. However, as the years passed, he began to recognize the farm’s incredible potential for producing high-quality coffee. The combination of high altitude, nutrient-rich volcanic soil, and an ideal microclimate created the perfect conditions for cultivating exceptional beans. With a commitment to refining fermentation and drying techniques, the farm soon started yielding coffee with outstanding cupping scores, and its quality continues to improve with each harvest.
Originally, the farm was home to traditional coffee varieties such as Castillo, Caturra, and Variedad Colombia. However, with a vision to produce world-class specialty coffee, Dr. Carlos introduced exotic, high-quality varieties like Wush Wush, Geisha, and Bourbon Sidra. His mission is to push the boundaries of coffee excellence, ensuring that each cup tells a story of dedication, innovation, and the unique terroir of Planadas..
